Student opportunities and activities
At St George Girls High School, the curriculum is complimented by a range of extra-curricular activities, enrichment experiences and student interest groups, each greatly enhancing the students sense of connection to the school. Following pursuits and exploring areas of interest, outside of the classroom, are all part of the quality of school life enjoyed by the students.
Clubs

Anime Manga Club
Gather to watch anime and do activities based on anime. Discuss animes, mangas and Japanese related topics

Astronomy Club
The SGGHS Astronomy Club is a club for those with a passion for the stars and universe. Tackle some mind boggling scientific space theories, discuss the origins of stars, the formation of galaxies and the Big Bang theory.

Badminton Club
A fun and inclusive group for players of all skill levels, from beginners to competitive athletes. Join in to improve your game, stay active or enjoy the friendly matches.

Book Club
The St George Girls Book Club is for students with a passion for reading. From romance to horror, book club covers it. Read and discuss books that interest you.

Chess Club
Welcome to where strategy meets boldness and every queen rules the board. Whether you are interested in learning or conquering the game this is the place to be.

Coding Club
Learn about technology and coding whatever your level.

Creative Club
Explore your artistic expression and talents through workshops and colloaborative projects and exciting performances.

Crochet Club
Crochet Club cultivates a nurturing and inclusive environment for those with an interest in crochet. Promoting creativity and enhancing skills.

Fish Society
Take the opportunity to look after the school's fish, keeping them happy and well-fed. Enjoy weird and wonderful discussions about marine creatures and ocean facts.

Food4Good Club
Food4Good brings together students with a passion for cooking and giving back. By preparing and sharing meals with local shelters, students not only foster a sense of community but also gain valuable skills and insight into food insecurity. Through teamwork and compassion, Food4Good makes a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

ISCF Lighthouse Christian Group
ISCF Lighthouse Christian Group is a student led group that meets weekly for bible study, games, snacks and prayer. Growing in faith and supporting each other in prayer and fellowship.

K-Pop Dance Club
Fans and dancers of K-Pop. Have fun learning how to dance to your favourite songs with confidence.

Model United Nations Club
The SGGHS Model United Nations Club is an immersive activity where students simulate being delegates to the United Nations, representing different countries over different disputes. Through the club, students improve their negotiation and debating skills while growing their knowledge of world events.

Muslim Group
The Muslim Group is a safe space for students to discuss their beliefs in Islam. Serving as a platform to share knowledge and learn from one another, its purpose is to create a sense of belonging and foster meaningful discussions that enhance the relationship with religion.

Social Justice Club
Dedicated to advocating for a range of social justice issues including women's rights, anti-racism, LGBTQIA+ rights, food insecurity, areas of conflict, natural disaster zones and many more. Discuss the issues and changes we can make within our own communities.

Uniform Committee
The Uniform Committee assists customers at the SGGHS Uniform Shop with sizing and purchases of uniforms. Volunteering to help your peers with the added benefit of gaining retail experience.
Extra-curricular Activities

Debating
Students selected to participate in the debating teams range from Year 8 to Year 12. The debating teams are entered into different debates with other schools throughout the year. During the year, students will engage with different current affairs and practise debating skills by attending team meetings.
Debating allows students to develop collaborative and public speaking skills and is a fun way to discuss different topics and relevant issues.

Duke of Edinburgh
Bronze, Silver and Gold Adventures
The Duke of Edinburgh program offered to students from Year 9 onwards, allowing young people to embark on adventurous journeys and make a lifetime of memories through the experiences of the trip. The program encourages participants to try new things, build life skills and get out of their comfort zone.
The type of adventure and overnight activities are dependent upon the award level.
Take the leap, get involved and enjoy creating friendships along the way that will last a life time.

Music Ensembles
Aspiring musicians and musicians wanting to expand their musical ensemble skills as well as playing favourite pieces with like-minded students then you should consider joining one of our many Music Ensembles.
Joining the music ensembles is a fantastic way for students to make friends, learn many valuable skills and develop their confidence to perform in front of an audience. Our school ensembles cater to all instruments and abilities as well as provide the opportunity to attend music camps and perform for school events.
Student Leadership
The St George Girls High School leadership bodies play a significant role in coordinating and organising key events and initiatives, as well as representing the students and the school. The students invest significant effort and time to ensure that the year is filled with school spirit, pride and many new experiences to share within the school community.

Enviro Council
The SGGHS Enviro Council is always looking for new ways to reduce the impact made on the planet, and take their responsibility for caring for the environment very seriously.
The Enviro Council consists of three sub-committees:
Gardening Team - grows its very own vegetables for staff and students take home to eat when ripe and ready.
Paper Recycling Team - makes our school more sustainable.
Worm Farm Team - feeds our worms, helping to fertilise the gardens around the school.

Peer Support
Students in Year 9 complete the Peer Support Training Program in Term 4, with 50 leaders selected to undertake the role of Peer Support Leaders in Year 10.
Peer Support Leaders are instrumental in supporting new students through their transition into High School by delivering activity sessions that develop communication skills, build authentic relationships and promote positive wellbeing.

Prefects
The SGGHS Prefect Body is comprised of a School Captain, 2 Vice Captains and 12 Prefects. These leaders are elected by students and staff to represent the school.
Their duties require them to build positive and productive relationships with students, staff and members of the school community, demonstrate effective communication, show initiative and strategic planning and model the school’s values and commitment to high expectations and personal best.

Student Representative Council
The SRC is a student nominated, student led group that is comprised of an SRC Executive Committee and SRC Year Representatives.
The SRC provide a voice for students, organise, coordinate and participate in a range of school and community activities, fundraise for charity, liaise between students and staff as well as promoting school spirit and supporting the wider school community.
