Wellbeing
At St George Girls High School, student wellbeing is a whole-school responsibility driven by a student-centred and evidence-based approach. We are committed to nurturing a culture where all students are known, valued, and cared for. The NSW Department of Education's Wellbeing Framework for Schools—Connect, Succeed, Thrive—underpins our practices to ensure every student is equipped to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
There are strong links between positive wellbeing and school achievement. The school considers teaching and learning and the development of wellbeing as parallel, integrated, complementary processes that uplift every student’s capacity. SGGHS’s strategic focus on wellbeing goes beyond just the welfare needs of a few individual students and aims for all students to be healthy, happy, successful and productive individuals who are active and positive contributors to the school and society in which they live.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- help for students who are new or changing year levels
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.

Our wellbeing programs

Year 7 Transition Program
At St George Girls High School, we are committed to ensuring a smooth and supportive transition for all incoming Year 7 students. Our comprehensive Year 7 Transition Program is designed to help students feel confident, connected, and prepared as they begin their high school journey. The program focuses on connecting students with the peer support leaders, building friendships, familiarise themselves with school routines, and develop a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

Social, Emotional and Academic Learners (SEAL) Program
The SEAL @ St George Program for students in Years 7-9, supports student in developing their social, emotional and academic skills, to actively contribute to discussions, collaborate with peers, participate in problem-solving and decision-making tasks, and engage with resources and strategies that can be used beyond the classroom and school life.

Supporting Educational and Emotional Development (SEED) Program
The Year 11 SEED Program supports student as they transition into Stage 6. The program delivers targeted learning and opportunities for students around essential skills and knowledge required in the senior years to support continued growth academically, physically and mentally.
The SEED Program links directly to areas of the Strategic Improvement Plan and also supports the implementation of the High Potential and Gifted Education Policy, the Wellbeing Framework and the Life Ready Program.

Cohort Camps
Cohort camps give students the opportunity to develop friendships, build team skills, take risks, and challenge themselves physically and mentally in a safe environment.
Cohort Camps are held each year for students in Years 7, 9 and 11.

Peer Support Leader Training
All students in Year 9 participate in Peer Support Leader training to develop their leadership skills and give them an opportunity to demonstrate commitment to supporting their peers. From this training, selected students become the Year 10 peer support leaders who nurture the new Year 7 students in their first few weeks of high school.
