The Social Sciences faculty offers a range of courses across the school curriculum. The faculty promotes student centred and independent learning through group work, individual research, the use of technology and extra-curricular activities including participation in state and national competitions.
Stages 4 and 5
Commerce
Commerce is offered as an elective in Years 8, 9 and 10. Students can elect to complete either a 100- or 200-hour Stage 5 course.
The following topics are covered in Year 8: Investing, Travel, Running a Business and a school developed option. Year 9 Commerce covers Law, Society and Political Involvement, Law in Action, Consumer and Financial Decisions, and Promoting & Selling. Year 10 Commerce canvasses the topics, Our Economy, The Economic and Business Environment, Employment and Work Futures, and Towards Independence.
Geography
Geography is compulsory for all students in Years 7-10. Stage 4 Geography students cover the following topics throughout Years 7 to 8: Landscapes and Landforms, Water in the World, Place and Liveability and Interconnections. Stage 5 students canvass the topics: Sustainable Biomes, Changing Places, Environmental Change & Management, and Human Wellbeing.
