Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
Our PDHPE program plays a crucial role in fostering the overall well-being, physical fitness, and personal development of our students. We aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives. We provide a dynamic and inclusive environment where students engage in practical activities, interactive lessons, and real-world health education.
Within our PDHPE programs, the key focus areas include understanding nutrition, mental well-being, personal health choices, resilience, self-awareness, decision-making, and personal safety. The practical component promotes movement skills, teamwork, and performance to encourage lifelong physical activity.
Stages 4 and 5
In the Stage 4 and 5 curriculum, the focus is on developing knowledge and understanding of health, safety, well-being, and relationships. The practical component of the course emphasizes fundamental movement skills to enhance performance across a broad range of movement concepts. Through movement experiences, students also develop interpersonal skills that support lifelong participation in healthy habits.
Stage 6
In Years 11 and 12, PDHPE offers Health and Movement Science, a 2-unit HSC subject designed to develop students' capacity to think critically about key issues related to health and physical activity.
Year 11 is structured around two focus areas:
- Health for Individuals and Communities
- The Body and Mind in Motion
Year 12 focuses on:
- Health in an Australian and Global Context
- Training for Improved Performance
Depth studies are embedded in both Years 11 and 12, along with a Collaborative Investigation in Year 11. The syllabus emphasizes the development of key skills, including collaboration, analysis, communication, creative thinking, problem-solving, and research.
